If your holidays to Italy include a stop in Milan, there will be many things to see and do. Unlike other cities in Italy, almost fourteen percent of the population in Milan is immigrants. This lends a unique flavor to the city.
While in Milan be sure the check out some of the following attractions:
Duomo di Milano | Milan Cathedral
This Cathedral was basically situated in the center of the city, having roads either leading to it, or circling it. This building was definitely a long-term project as it took over five hundred years to build, but is nothing short of spectacular.
Piazza del Duomo
Milan’s main square, which is associated with the Cathedral right nearby. This area is a major attraction for the tourists visiting the city.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Located on the north side of the Piazza del Duomo, this landmark consists of two glass-vaulted arcades at right angles intersecting in an octagon. It connects the Piazza del Duomo and the teatro all Scala.
Teatro alla Scala
This world famous opera house and ballet theatre is another site to include on your sightseeing agenda.
Castello Sforzesco
Originally the residence of the ruling family of Milan, this castle is now the home of many of the city’s museums and art collections. Within the walls of this castle, or should it say, on the ceiling in this castle, you will see paintings by Leonardo da Vinci.
Santa Maria delle Grazie
Home of Leonardo’s famous mural The Last Supper, the church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites list.
Via Monte Napoleone
If fashion and jewelry are your thing, you’ll need to take a trip down the exquiste Via Monte Napoleone.
Once again this is by no means an exhaustive list, however it highlights some of the more popular attractions in Milan. There are plenty more sights to be seen, pictures to be taken and memories to be created in this city.
